What is More Precious Than Rubies?

More Precious Than Rubies Women’s Independence Village, Inc. is a Florida nonprofit organization founded to help women and children escaping domestic abuse heal from trauma and build lasting independence. Our flagship effort is the Women’s Independence Village.

What is the Women’s Independence Village?

A planned residential community of private tiny homes on a single, secure campus in Florida, paired with wraparound support — counseling, children’s services, education, workforce development, financial empowerment, and optional pastoral care — so a family can rebuild in one place.

Is the Village open yet?

Not yet. We are in the building and fundraising stage. This website shares our vision and progress as we work to open the Village’s doors. Sign up for updates on our Get Involved page to follow along.

Where will the Village be located?

In Florida. We will share more specific location details as the project advances and as appropriate for the safety of future residents.

Who will the Village serve?

Adult women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse — which includes physical, sexual, psychological, emotional and financial abuse and coercive control, not only abuse that leaves visible injury — and who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness as a result of leaving an abusive household. Applicants agree to take part in case management and to work toward an individualized independence plan. We welcome women and children of every background and faith. The Village is a limited number of homes. At least 20% of them are reserved for households at or below 50% of area median income, at least 75% for households at or below 80%, and the remaining homes carry no income limit at all. Income is not used to screen applicants; where more families apply than we can house, we weigh risk of harm, the absence of other options, and household income together.

Are you a 501(c)(3)? Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. On August 27, 2026 the IRS determined that we are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and are a public charity under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). Our EIN is 42-4472231. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Because our exemption is effective August 6, 2026, gifts made on or after that date qualify. Please consult your tax advisor.

Can I refer someone, or apply to live at the Village?

How do I know my gift will be used responsibly?

We are committed to transparent, responsible stewardship. Our Board of Directors oversees budgets and spending, and we will publish financial information and annual reports as the organization grows. See “Our Commitment to Accountability” on the Get Involved page.
